HELPFUL LINKS TO BOOKS
FOR YOUNG CHILDREN 4-6
For beginning students ages 5 to 6
Use My First Piano Adventure®. My First Piano Adventure® captures the child’s playful spirit. Fun-filled songs, rhythm games and technique activities develop beginning keyboard skills. My First’s three levels, A, B, and C, each have a Lesson Book with CD and a Writing Book. Book C of this young beginner course leads into Level 1 of basic Piano Adventures®.
FOR BEGINNING STUDENTS AGE 7-9
The Primer Level introduces the keyboard, note values, and the grand staff. Students play in Middle C Position and C Position through recognition of steps and skips, and learn letter names independent of finger number. Musicianship is built through the use of dynamics and coloristic experimentation with the pedal.
FOR OLDER CHILDREN BEGINNERS 10 AND UP
Accelerated Book 1
Accelerated Piano Adventures® for the Older Beginner features the proven, pedagogical approach set forth in the basic piano method and continues the tradition of learning music through discovery, creativity, and adventure. Book 1 of the accelerated series combines the Primer Level and Level One of the basic Piano Adventures® method.
Lesson book, Theory and Technique and Artistry books are recommended.
Adult Piano Adventures® is a comprehensive course in reading, playing, and listening to music. With its logical and effective approach to note-reading, Book One gives you the basic skills to play hundreds of melodies by the completion of the book.
Scales are introduced as soon as possible. Learning scales gives a pianist the opportunity to learn how to move all over the piano fluidly. Scales help with improv, chord charts, classical and every part of playing the piano.
One of the best parts of playing music is being able to share the joy of playing music with other people. Chord charts are an excellent way to quickly be able to play with other musicians, as well as practice up on learning your chord symbols. This website is the best collection of charts that I've found.
Lead Sheets offer more information than a simple chord chart. Lead Sheets give Treble Clef notation and chord symbols. A lead sheet often costs just a few dollars and is more accurate, while you can usually find a chord chart for free, but need to interpret the music more.
